Birchden Vineyards
The walk from Groombridge station to Birchden Vineyards takes approximately 35 minutes across fields and country footpaths, following the railway line through the picturesque High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This scenic route offers views across the valley, passes through woodland, and provides opportunities to spot the Spa Valley Railway's steam train. Located near the RSPB nature reserve at Broadwater Warren, the area is rich in wildlife.
The path involves three stiles and uneven ground, meaning sensible walking boots or wellies are recommended, especially as it can be wet and muddy in places year-round. While not overly strenuous, a moderate walking ability is needed. Upon arrival, the vineyard offers amenities including a Tasting Den for wine, honey, and apple juice, along with a coffee truck ("The Blackbird") serving coffee, crêpes, and galettes, plus snacks and charcuterie boards. There's outdoor seating available, and dogs on leads are welcome.
If you prefer not to walk, local taxi services are available in Groombridge it is advisable to book ahead.
