Nestled in the picturesque Test Valley, Black Chalk Wine offers a down-to-earth and engaging experience, praised for its informative tours and delicious tastings. It's a boutique setting with passionate staff, creating a welcoming atmosphere for those eager to learn about English winemaking.

Visiting Information

Booking: Tours and tastings must be pre-booked to ensure your spot.Tours: Public tours typically run from Friday to Sunday, with morning and afternoon slots available during summer. Tours include a walk through the vineyard, a guided explanation of the winemaking process in their state-of-the-art winery, and conclude with a tutored tasting of two wines. The experience lasts 1 to 1.5 hours, extending to 2 hours if opting for lunch.


Open Year-Round: Black Chalk Wine offers tours throughout the year, though the period from April to September is often recommended for vineyard visits.

Food & Drink: While there isn't a full restaurant, the Tasting Room serves locally-sourced grazing platters, including cheeseboards, charcuterie, and trout pâté, perfect for complementing your wine tasting.

Special Events: The vineyard launched self-guided wine walks at the end of 2024, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace.

Accommodation: For a truly unique stay, four luxury treehouses managed by Wild Escapes are located adjacent to the vineyard, each sleeping two people. Guests of the treehouses can arrange private tours and tastings.

Accessibility: Both children and dogs are welcome on tours and in the Tasting Room.

The Wine

Black Chalk Wine is renowned for its premium English sparkling wines, crafted using the traditional method with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier grapes. They also produce still wines, including a Pinot Noir Rosé and Chardonnay. The vineyard has quickly garnered significant recognition within the industry. Their Black Chalk Classic 2016 won the People's Choice Drinks Award for best UK sparkling wine in 2021 and an IWSC 2020 Trophy. Black Chalk has also received numerous other prestigious accolades, including Gold at the International Wine and Spirits Championship, and was named Overall Trophy Winner and Newcomer of the Year at the Wine GB Awards.


All wines are made with sustainable and minimal intervention practices, and Black Chalk is certified by the Sustainable Wines of Great Britain for both its vineyards and winery.


The vineyard has its own state-of-the-art winery, completed in 2020, allowing them to meticulously control the winemaking process from grape to bottle. The 2020 harvest was the first to be fully produced on-site.

Black Chalk Wine is located in the picturesque Test Valley, approximately 1 hour 30 minutes from central London via the M3 and A303.


By Public Transport
The nearest train station is Andover, about 5 miles from the vineyard. A taxi from Andover station takes approximately 10 minutes. Alternatively, Winchester station is about 10 miles away, with a taxi journey of around 20 minutes. Trains from London Waterloo to both Andover and Winchester take approximately 1 hour. Pre-booking your taxi is recommended.
