The Wine
Leventhorpe Vineyard is renowned for its diverse range of award-winning wines, all produced on-site from grapes cultivated within its five-acre vineyard. They produce dry white wines such as Madeleine Angevine and Seyval, alongside sparkling wines including their Yorkshire Brut. A small quantity of red wine is also produced, with grape varieties like Triomphe, Regent, and Pinot Noir grown in the vineyard. The vineyard boasts a history of critical acclaim; it was recommended by Rick Stein and garnered praise from Oz Clarke, who famously described Leventhorpe as a "once tasted always remembered kind of wine". The Madeleine Angevine has been featured as a 'Wine of the Week' in the Daily Telegraph (July 2006) and endorsed by Jancis Robinson in the Financial Times (May 2007). The vineyard has even hosted a royal visit from HRH The Duke of Kent, who expressed astonishment at the quality of their wines, and their Madeleine Angevine 2010 was served at a reception attended by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall in 2013.
While not formally certified as organic, Leventhorpe Vineyard employs traditional farming methods with minimal chemical use. This includes encouraging beneficial insects by leaving strips of weeds between vine rows and using manure for fertilisation, contributing to the health of the soil and vines. All wines are crafted in their purpose-built winery located directly on the vineyard premises, allowing for precise control over the winemaking process from grape to bottle.
