Vinebound Verdict
I’ve visited Albury twice now and it’s become a bit of a favorite. I first came for a self-guided walk with the dog; the vineyard sits right on the North Downs, so it’s easy to loop a visit into a longer hike through the hills. On my second trip, I brought a group for the cheese and wine tasting - the fact its easily accessible from Guildford via taxi make it a good spot for those in London.
What's the vibe?
A small, family-run estate in the Surrey Hills with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Albury is one of the few UK vineyards working to both organic and biodynamic principles, creating a space that prioritizes sustainability and biodiversity alongside winemaking.

Opening Hours: The tasting room and shop are typically open Saturdays, Sundays, and bank holidays from 11am-5pm (May-September). Hours vary in autumn and winter, so check their website or call ahead.
Tours & Tastings: Drop in for a glass of wine or cheese and charcuterie board on the patio. Guided vineyard tours with tastings run on Saturdays from May to September—book ahead as they fill up quickly. A free self-guided tour and wildlife walk are available anytime during opening hours.
On-site Food & Drink: Wine by the glass or bottle, plus two different tasting flights. Cheese and charcuterie boards available to order. No full restaurant.
Special Events: Regular events throughout the year including wine and cheese tastings, live music in the vineyard, and beekeeping demonstrations. Past events have featured wine experts like Oz Clarke.

Albury focuses on sparkling wines and a still rosé, using Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Seyval Blanc, and Pinot Gris. Their range includes the Albury Estate Classic Cuvée, Sparkling Rosé, Prestige Cuvée, and Silent Pool Rosé.
The Silent Pool Rosé was served on the Royal Barge during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012. More recently, their Albury Estate Blanc de Noirs 2018 won double Gold at both Decanter 2022 and the Independent English Wine Awards 2022. Previous wins include Gold at the International Organic Wine Awards 2016 for their Classic Cuvée and Blanc de Blancs, plus medals at Decanter Wine Awards and International Wine Challenge. They were named Drinks Producer of the Year at the Surrey Life Food & Drink Awards in 2016 and 2018.
The vineyard is certified organic and follows biodynamic practices, minimizing chemical use and supporting natural habitats. As a founding member of Sustainable Wines of Great Britain (SWGB), they hold gold certification and use fully recyclable packaging.

By Car
From Guildford, take the A25 toward Dorking. After Newlands Corner, turn off at the sign for 'Silent Pool' and follow the track alongside the Silent Pool car park. On-site parking available. Approximately 15 minutes from Guildford, 90 minutes from London.
By Public Transport
Nearest mainline station is Guildford (40 minutes from London Waterloo), then a 10-15 minute taxi to the vineyard. Local stations Gomshall and Clandon are closer but require pre-booked taxis. Walking from Gomshall takes about 45 minutes along an A road.
