What's the vibe?

Frome Valley Vineyard is a family-run vineyard set beside the River Frome in Herefordshire, surrounded by orchards, hop yards and historic farm buildings dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. The setting is quiet and rural, with visits centred on guided tours and tastings, though visitors may also explore parts of the site independently.

Tours & Tastings:

Guided vineyard tours and tutored tastings run seasonally from April to September and are strongly recommended to be booked in advance. Tours typically last between one and two hours and are limited in size to maintain a small-group experience. Visitors who arrive without a booking can explore the demonstration vineyard on a self-guided basis, which showcases different trellising systems used across the site. Tastings take place in the vineyard’s tasting room and outdoor pavilion, allowing experiences to run in most weather conditions.

Accessibility:

The tasting room and outdoor pavilion are wheelchair accessible. The demonstration vineyard is accessed via six shallow steps, and the main vineyard involves a walk of approximately 150 metres across a grass field. Due to the listed status of the historic buildings, the visitor toilet is not wheelchair accessible.

Children & Dogs:

Children are welcome to attend visits. While alcohol tastings are restricted to those aged 18 and over, younger visitors are offered tastings of different vintages of the vineyard’s apple juices. Dogs are welcome on tours and around the vineyard and often accompany walks through the vines.

The Wine

Return to contents
Frome Valley Vineyard produces a range of English still and sparkling wines, including still whites, sparkling whites and sparkling rosé. Grape varieties include Madeleine Angevine, Bacchus, Reichensteiner, Huxelrebe and Pinot Noir. Their traditional-method sparkling wines typically blend Pinot Noir with Seyval Blanc.

In selected vintages, a small portion of the harvest is distilled into English brandy. Wines and spirits from the vineyard have received regular recognition in English wine competitions.

The vineyard was an early participant in the Sustainable Wines of Great Britain (SWGB) initiative and focuses on soil health and low-intervention viticulture. Practices include hand pruning and harvesting, the use of sheep for winter grazing, experimentation with biochar and vermicast products, and active management of surrounding woodland and riverbanks to support biodiversity.

Energy use is partly offset through solar panels and biomass heating. All wine is made from fruit grown at Frome Valley, with production being handled by the winery at Haygrove Evolution in Ledbury.
