What's the vibe?

Calancombe Estate offers a relaxed but polished experience in the South Devon countryside, combining vineyards, gardens, and food in a setting designed to be enjoyed at an unhurried pace. It feels welcoming and well thought-through, with as much emphasis on eating and spending time on the estate as on the wines themselves.

Restaurant & Dining: The estate has an on-site restaurant serving breakfast/brunch, lunch, and afternoon tea. Menus focus on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, with produce from the estate’s own kitchen garden used where possible. Afternoon tea must be pre-booked, while other services may accept walk-ins depending on capacity.

Dogs & Children: Dogs are welcome in the vineyard grounds when kept on a lead, but are not permitted in the restaurant, winery, or tasting areas. Children are welcome in the restaurant when supervised, though vineyard tours are generally aimed at adults.

The Wine

Return to contents
Calancombe Estate produces a range of English wines grown exclusively on the estate, including sparkling white and rosé, still white wines, and still red wines in favourable vintages. Grape varieties include Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Bacchus, Madeleine Angevine, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir Précoce.

In addition to wine, the estate produces sparkling cyder and cassis from estate-grown fruit, alongside Dartmouth English Gin and Dartmouth Navy Strength Gin.

Their wines have received national recognition, including silver medals at WineGB and the Independent English Wine Awards. Winemaking takes place in a modern on-site winery, with full control from harvest through to bottling. While not certified organic or regenerative, the estate places a strong emphasis on sustainability and biodiversity, incorporating solar power, composting, and mixed planting to avoid monoculture.
