The Wine
Return to contents
Mallard Point is a single-estate “grape to glass” operation, with winemaking and distilling carried out on site at their Essendine vineyard. The vines were planted from 2019 onwards and are managed with a focus on cool-climate grape growing.
Wine Varieties:
Grape varieties grown include Bacchus, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Blanc, Sauvignac and Cabernet Jura. These are used to produce a range of still wines and small-batch releases. Sparkling wine is also produced in limited quantities and is primarily available directly from the estate.
Spirits:
In addition to wine, Mallard Point operates an on-site distillery producing gin and other spirits using estate ingredients where possible.
Sustainability & Viticulture:
Sustainability underpins Mallard Point’s approach from vineyard to bottle. The estate practices minimal-intervention winemaking, including the use of native yeasts. A bottle return and reuse scheme operates for certain products to reduce packaging waste, and the vineyard is a member of The Porto Protocol, supporting climate action within the wine industry.
