Urban winery in central Cambridge, no vineyard on site. No walk-in shop hours -- visits happen via ticketed wine tastings, held twice-monthly on Thursday evenings, bookable online. Wine Club members also get invites to on-site events and winery tours.

What's the vibe?

Gutter & Stars is Cambridge’s pioneering urban winery, producing small-batch English wines from within the historic Chesterton Mill. Run by journalist-turned-winemaker Chris Wilson, it offers a distinctive, industrious setting focused firmly on thoughtful, low-intervention winemaking rather than a traditional vineyard visitor experience.

Picnics are welcome at open day events, and dogs and children are encouraged to come along.

Gutter & Stars specialises in small-production English still wines, using grapes sourced from vineyards across eastern and southern England. Their range changes regularly by vintage and has included varietals such as Bacchus, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, alongside distinctive blends.

The wines have received strong critical attention from UK wine writers, with praise focusing on their precision, balance and clarity of expression. There is no publicly available information regarding formal organic, biodynamic or regenerative certifications. All wines are produced on site within the cool basement of Chesterton Mill, making Gutter & Stars one of the UK’s few fully operational urban wineries.
