The Wine
Shotley Vineyard produces a focused range of single-vineyard English wines, ensuring that every bottle reflects the unique characteristics of their Suffolk-grown grapes. Their selection includes crisp still white Bacchus, a delicate still red Pinot Noir, and a charming rosé crafted from 100% Pinot Noir grapes. They also offer a refreshing sparkling wine, made using the Charmat method, which is a blend of Auxerrois, Chardonnay, Seyval Blanc, and Reichensteiner grape varieties. The vineyard has garnered recognition for its quality. Their 2021 Bacchus and Pinot Noir received a Gold and Silver medal respectively at the WineGB East awards in August 2022. More recently, their 2022 Bacchus was awarded a Gold medal, and their 2022 Pinot Noir a Silver medal at the WineGB East 2023 awards. Additionally, their 2021 Bacchus earned a spot in the '100 of the UK's best wines'.
While not yet part of formal sustainability programs like Sustainable WineGB, Shotley Vineyard is committed to mindful farming practices. They aim to minimise diesel use, extend spray windows when conditions allow, and use bio-stimulants to reduce the need for agro-chemicals, applying only what is necessary to maintain vine health.
The winemaking process for Shotley Vineyard's wines is currently carried out off-site at the Bolney Wine Estate in Haywards Heath.
