The Wine

Return to contents
White Castle Vineyard produces a respected range of Welsh wines, working with grape varieties including Pinot Noir Précoce, Regent, Rondo, Seyval Blanc, Phoenix, Siegerrebe and Cabernet Franc. Their portfolio includes still red, white and rosé wines, sparkling wines, and a distinctive fortified wine named “1581”. The vineyard has achieved significant recognition for quality. It became the first Welsh vineyard to win a Gold medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards in 2021 for its Pinot Noir Précoce Reserve 2018, followed by further medals in subsequent years. White Castle has also received the WineGB Regional Producers Award for Wales for three consecutive years (2021–2023). At the Welsh Wine Awards 2024, their Regent Red 2022 was named Best Welsh Red Wine, Best PDO/PGI Wine, and Overall Best Wine of the Day, with additional wines receiving silver medals. All White Castle wines have been vegan-friendly from the 2018 vintage onwards. For many years, grapes were processed off-site, but from the 2024 vintage, Robb and Nicola have established their own on-site winery, Y Gwindy, marking a significant step in fully estate-based Welsh wine production.
