Black Mountain Vineyard is a small, artisan vineyard in rural Herefordshire, focused on low-intervention, hands-on winemaking. The emphasis is on natural wine production, with a strong connection to place and a deliberately simple, small-scale approach to growing grapes and making wine.

Black Mountain Vineyard was established in 2009 by Laura and Mark on an 8-acre south-facing slope in Turnastone, Herefordshire, in the shadow of the Brecon Beacons National Park and between Hereford and Hay-on-Wye. The site sits on clay loam over old red sandstone bedrock, which gives the wines their particular character.

The vineyard grows a mix of classic and hybrid varieties, including Pinot Meunier, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Phoenix, Solaris, Cabernet Cortis and Seyval Blanc - the hybrid varieties added in 2020. These plantings support a range of still and sparkling wines produced in small quantities.

Winemaking takes place in an off-grid, on-site winery using a low-intervention approach. Fermentation and maturation are carried out with minimal handling; wines are made without fining or filtration, and no sulphur is added during production.

The vineyard began its organic conversion through the Soil Association in 2018 and is now fully certified organic. It follows natural farming principles aimed at building long-term soil health and reducing environmental impact. A hybrid co-ferment from the estate has been recognised with a Silver award at the PIWI International Wine Award.

Black Mountain Vineyard is located in rural Herefordshire, near Turnastone, and is best reached by car. The vineyard sits between Hereford and Hay-on-Wye, close to the Brecon Beacons National Park. Directions are provided on the vineyard's website.

By Public Transport
The nearest mainline train station is Hereford. From there, local bus services run towards Peterchurch and the Golden Valley area; the vineyard is in Turnastone, so a taxi or pre-arranged lift will be needed for the final stretch. Hay-on-Wye is the nearest town and is also served by bus from Hereford, offering an alternative starting point.
