Hampshire has produced some excellent English sparkling wine for decades, but the vineyard restaurant scene hasn't kept pace. Hambledon is the exception worth travelling for — the others are worth knowing about, but West Sussex is the better destination if dining is the main event.

I've eaten at Hambledon and it's the clear standout — the restaurant opened in early 2025 in a new green oak barn, led by head chef Nick Edgar who came from Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons, and it's already listed in the Michelin Guide. The Courtyard offers a more casual al fresco option for walk-ins if you haven't booked ahead. Quob Park Estate near Wickham takes a different approach — Restaurant 1707 is set in a Georgian hotel and offers 5 and 7-course tasting menus with an estate-to-glass ethos, though it feels more like a country house hotel restaurant that happens to have a vineyard than the other way around. If you're in Hampshire and want more choice, the West Sussex options — Wiston, Kinsbrook, Bolney, Ashling Park — are all within an hour and represent some of the best vineyard dining in the South East.

Some do, particularly on scheduled tasting days. Hattingley Valley tour and tasting packages often include canapes or small plates. Check individual vineyard websites as it varies significantly.
Which is the best Hampshire vineyard for a special occasion?
