What Makes a Vineyard Good for New Year's Eve Events
New Year's Eve at a vineyard is usually a dinner with English sparkling wine, in a barn, a manor house or a restaurant with the vines outside the window. The format varies from a dinner and dance to a house party, so it is worth checking the running order before you book.
In previous years, West Sussex's Leonardslee has hosted a dinner of three or four courses with English sparkling wine and canapés on arrival, a live DJ, and overnight stays at The Vineyard Hotel. North Yorkshire's Carlton Towers has held a candlelit three-course dinner with welcome fizz, dancing and a midnight countdown with live bagpipes.
Others have gone for something more casual. Devon's Lympstone Manor has run an intimate house party with fine wines and good company, and Shropshire's Hencote has hosted an Abba-themed New Year's Eve party.
Some vineyards have also opened on New Year's Day for anyone starting the year more gently. Westwell has served bacon butties and fizz with vineyard walks and board games, Balfour Winery has offered flatbreads and cold-cut platters with a wander through the vineyards and orchards, and Carlton Towers has served a one-course brunch by the fireplace.
