The Wine at Newick Wine Estate
Newick Wine Estate grows four varieties across its south-facing slopes at Ketches Farm in the East Sussex countryside: Chardonnay accounts for around 44% of plantings, Pinot Noir for 30%, with Pinot Meunier and Bacchus making up 13% each. The mix of classic sparkling varieties alongside Bacchus - well suited to the English climate - gives the estate flexibility across sparkling and still wine styles.
The vines grow on soils derived from the Tunbridge Wells Sand Formation: free-draining, low in clay, and responsive to sunlight. These conditions suit careful canopy management and allow the fruit to ripen reliably on the sheltered, south-facing slopes.
Ketches Farm has a long association with fruit growing. The village of Newick was once known for its premium soft-fruit production, with the farm at the centre of that tradition - producing blackcurrants, strawberries, and the locally celebrated Newick Leveller dessert gooseberry. The estate's owners arrived in 2007 and have channelled that agricultural heritage into viticulture, treating the vineyard as a natural continuation of the land's productive history.
Wines are available to buy directly through the estate's online shop, and a wine club offers regular deliveries for those who want to follow the estate's releases more closely.
