What's the vibe?

One of the oldest continually operating commercial vineyard in the UK invites visitors to relax amidst rolling vines and enjoy sea views. Live music in summer, charming farm animals and the instruction to just turn up, no booking required, adds to the casual and welcoming atmosphere.

Adgestone is open Wednesday to Saturday from 10am to 4:30pm and Sunday from 11am to 4:30pm; closed Monday and Tuesday. No booking is needed for tours or tastings - just arrive on the day. A one-hour tour of the vineyard and cellars costs from £12 per person. A standalone wine tasting lesson is from £15 per person. The whole vineyard experience - tour plus tasting - is from £22 per person. Food is available on site in the form of sharing platters (meat, cheese, nachos, olives, stuffed vine leaves and ciabatta), served on natural slate. There is no full restaurant. Dogs are welcome in outdoor areas but must be kept on a short lead at all times because of the free-roaming chickens. They are not permitted in the shop or cellars. Wine can also be ordered online for delivery to the UK mainland. Check the website for current availability.

Adgestone grows Seyval Blanc and Phoenix for its whites, Pinot Noir for its rosé, and Rondo for its full-bodied red. The vineyard has been producing wine on the Isle of Wight since at least the 1970s - a period in which it held the Gore Brown Trophy, then the most prestigious award in English wine. The Dry Wight and Full Bodied Red have both picked up awards in more recent years. Adgestone is perhaps best known for its vivid blue sparkling wine, a curiosity that tends to divide opinion, but the range extends well beyond it.

By CarUnless you're an Island resident, you'll need to take a ferry - Red Funnel sails from Southampton to East Cowes, while Wightlink sails from Portsmouth to Fishbourne and from Lymington to Yarmouth.

By Public Transport
The nearest train station is Brading, which is approximately a 20-25 minute walk from the vineyard. For bus information, contact Southern Vectis or visit their website. Brading station does not have a taxi rank, so advance booking for a taxi is essential; local operators can be found, or you may find more taxi availability from Ryde or Sandown stations.
