What's the vibe?

Wayfarer Wines is a family-run estate in Woodchurch, Kent, run by Matt Ashford alongside his wife Karen and sister Emma. It is a relaxed but purposeful operation focused on producing still wines from Kent-grown grapes, with guided tours and tastings on Saturdays through the season.

Shop: A welcoming on-site shop is open during visiting hours, stocking the full range of Wayfarer wines as well as gift cards redeemable in store or online.

Vineyard Tours and Tastings: Guided tours of the vineyard run on Saturdays at 12:30pm and 3pm, each including a wine tasting led by Karen Ashford. Tickets are from £20 per person and should be booked in advance. Availability is limited.

Food: Food is available to purchase on the day, with the option to pre-order in advance.

Events: Wayfarer hosts a varied programme of events throughout the year, including open vineyard evenings, vertical tastings, winemaker dinners, and an Asado open-flame BBQ. Details and tickets are available at wayfarerwines.com/collections/tours.

Loyalty Club: Wayfarer runs a loyalty club offering member discounts on wine purchases and reduced prices on events such as the Winemakers Dinner.

Access: Visits are centred around scheduled tours and shop hours rather than casual drop-ins on other days.

Wayfarer Wines focuses exclusively on still wines, working with a range of varieties suited to the Kent climate: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Bacchus, Ortega, and Pinot Gris. The lineup includes a Pinot Noir rosé, an oaked Chardonnay, a single-variety Bacchus, a Bacchus-Ortega blend, and a Pinot Gris — each reflecting the character of the Woodchurch estate. Winemaking takes a hands-on approach, with grapes grown on site and wines made by hand at a facility in Tenterden. Sustainability is central to how the vineyard is farmed. In 2024, Wayfarer was named Best Wine in Kent, recognition that placed it ahead of some of the county's best-established producers.

By Public Transport / Wine Bus:
For those without a car, Wayfarer runs a dedicated Wine Bus from Folkestone Harbour. Tickets are bookable through the events page on the Wayfarer website.

Woodchurch sits in the heart of the Kent countryside, close to Tenterden and within easy reach of Folkestone. The surrounding area offers quiet rural walking and a strong local food and drink scene.
