Nyetimber

For many the absolute benchmark: a famously closed-door English sparkling wine estate that only opens to the public on a handful of carefully run dates each year.

Overview Return to contents

What's the vibe

English excellence. In 2025, Nyetimber became the first English wine producer to beat Champagne to the Champion Sparkling Wine trophy at the International Wine Challenge, with head winemaker Cherie Spriggs claiming Sparkling Winemaker of the Year for the second time. The same year they were named Best Drinks Producer at the BBC Food & Farming Awards, the first wine producer ever to win it.
Visiting information Return to contents
Nyetimber is not open for walk-in visits. Access is limited to pre-booked ticketed events such as Open Day Tours and Chef's Paired Dining Experiences. Dates are released in batches and sell out fast.

2026 Open Days
9–10 May, 27–28 June, 25–26 July, 8–9 August, 22–23 August, 12–13 September

Restaurant / Café:

There is no public café or restaurant on site. Food is only available as part of ticketed dining events (for example, chef-led paired dinners).

Vineyard Tours & Wine Tastings:

Nyetimber’s Open Day Tour typically includes a welcome in the estate’s White Barn, a guided walk through the vineyards, and a hosted tasting in the Medieval Barn. The experience is usually around two and a half hours end-to-end.

On Open Days, Nyetimber also offers the chance to buy wines on the day (often at cellar door prices). At times, the ticket price may be redeemable against a case purchase-details are listed on the ticket page for each date.

Special Events:

Nyetimber also runs a small number of dining-focused experiences, where a multi-course menu is paired with Nyetimber wines (including their prestige cuvée). These are date-specific and ticketed.

Dogs & Children:

Nyetimber events are 18+ only, so children cannot attend. Dogs are not permitted, except registered assistance dogs with advance notice.

The Wine Return to contents
Nyetimber produces traditional-method English sparkling wine using estate-grown Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The range includes Classic Cuvée, Rosé, Blanc de Blancs, Cuvée Chérie, Tillington (single-vineyard), and the prestige 1086 cuvée.

Nyetimber is also known for serious industry recognition over time, including standout international competition results and major individual awards for its winemaking team, most notably head winemaker Cherie Spriggs being named International Sparkling Winemaker of the Year in 2018 and 2025.

Getting here Return to contents
By car

Nyetimber Vineyard is located at Gay Street, West Chiltington, West Sussex, RH20 2HH. Parking is free for ticketed events. If using sat nav, Nyetimber advises ignoring directions that route you via Lower Jordan’s Lane-continue on Gay Street until you see the Nyetimber sign.

By public transport

The nearest stations are Pulborough and Billingshurst, with direct services from London Victoria (typically around 1 hour 15 minutes). A taxi from Pulborough is usually around 10–15 minutes, and Nyetimber advises taxis should be booked in advance for event days.

On-the-day practicalities

Nyetimber notes that cash is not accepted on Open Days. Any wine purchases typically need to be taken home on the day as delivery services are not available from the estate.

For the extra curious Return to contents
Nyetimber’s Open Day experience leans into the estate itself: you start in the White Barn, walk the vineyards, then taste in the Medieval Barn. It’s a nice detail because it doesn’t feel like a generic “visitor centre” format-more like you’re being shown around someone’s working patch of the South Downs.

Nyetimber also highlights that some of the vines you walk past are among the oldest in England, which adds a bit of perspective: English sparkling wine might feel “new” in the wider world, but parts of this estate have genuine history in the ground.

A small practical point that matters: Nyetimber’s Open Day page notes that purchases need to be taken home on the day (no estate delivery service), and payment is card-only. It’s the sort of detail that’s easy to miss until you’re standing there with a box in your arms.

FAQ

Is Nyetimber worth visiting?
Nyetimber has spent decades earning its reputation, and a visit reflects that. The tour and tasting sits at the pricier end for English vineyards, but you're getting full pours rather than thimble-sized samples, and your ticket price is refunded against any purchase of six or more bottles. Book early: events are limited and sell out fast.
Can you visit Nyetimber without a ticket?
Nyetimber visits are only possible via pre-booked ticketed events. The vineyard is not open to the public for walk-in visits or casual tastings.
Does Nyetimber have regular opening hours?
Nyetimber does not operate regular public opening hours. Access is limited to specific event dates announced throughout the year, most commonly during the summer and early autumn.
Can you buy wine directly from Nyetimber?
Wine can be purchased directly from Nyetimber during ticketed events. There is no permanent cellar door or retail shop open to the public outside these events.
Are Nyetimber tours suitable for a vineyard day trip from London?
Nyetimber can work as a vineyard day trip from London if tickets are secured in advance and transport is planned ahead of time. With limited event dates and structured timings, the experience suits planned visits rather than spontaneous day trips.
Are children or dogs allowed at Nyetimber?
Nyetimber events are strictly 18+ only, meaning children are not permitted. Dogs are not allowed on the estate, except for registered assistance dogs with advance notice.
