Out-of-hours shop visits by appointment, call 07976 620230. Previous entry was significantly incomplete -- it was missing the Friday/Saturday 10am-5pm shop hours entirely, and had the Terrace Bar wrongly listed as Tue/Thu instead of the correct Tue/Sat (May-Sep only).

Opening hours can change for private events - it's always worth checking the vineyard's website before you visit.

What's the vibe?

Nestled in the South Downs, Upperton Vineyards offers a calm and intimate setting focused on its estate-grown English sparkling wines. This family-run vineyard is best suited to relaxed visits centred on tasting the wines and enjoying the views from the terrace, rather than a structured visitor programme.

Visits are centred around the vineyard shop and tasting terrace.

Wine tastings:
Free tastings of two Upperton wines are offered during shop opening hours, with no need to book in advance. Tastings take place in the shop and on the terrace, subject to availability.

For something more structured, the Cheese & Wine Tasting Experience pairs three Upperton sparkling wines with five artisan British cheeses - bookable in advance and priced from £35 per person. Check the website for available dates.

Vineyard tours:
Guided tours of the vineyard are available and run from approximately 45 minutes to one hour. Standard tours are priced from £15 per person, with a more detailed technical tour available from £18 per person. Private tours for groups of ten or more can be arranged. All tours include a wine tasting and must be booked in advance.

Opening hours:
The vineyard shop is open Tuesday to Thursday from 12pm to 5pm, and Friday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm. The outdoor terrace is open for drinks on Fridays and Saturdays, typically from May to September, from 12pm to 6pm.

Food & drink:
There is no restaurant or food service on site. The Terrace Bar serves Upperton sparkling wines by the glass or bottle, along with local Langham Brewery beer, on Fridays and Saturdays from May to September.

Events:
Upperton hosts a programme of events throughout the season, including Afternoon Tea and Vineyard Tour experiences and a Pre-Harvest Dinner Dance. See the website for the current schedule and booking details.

Dogs & children:
Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome in the shop and on the terrace. Children are also welcome when visiting with adults.

Upperton Vineyards is dedicated to producing English sparkling wines using traditional methods. The vineyard grows classic Champagne varieties - Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier - alongside a small amount of Pinot Noir Précoce.

Their range includes cuvées such as Alia (Blanc de Blancs), Nebula (a blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay), and Tenebris (Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier). The wines have received international recognition, including Gold medals at the Decanter World Wine Awards and the International Wine Challenge for the 2013 vintage of Alia Blanc de Blancs, along with more recent silver medals at Decanter.

Upperton Vineyards does not have a winery on site; winemaking is carried out off site.

By car:
The vineyard entrance is directly off the A272, just west of Petworth.

By public transport:
The nearest train station is Pulborough. From there, a taxi journey takes approximately 10–15 minutes (around 3.5 miles).

The vineyard sits within easy reach of the South Downs National Park and nearby villages.
