What's the vibe?

Blackbook is a small, hands-on winery set inside a railway arch on the London Stone Business Estate. There is no vineyard here - the wine is made from grapes driven in from growers across the south of England and vinified on site, usually with founder Sergio Verrillo talking you through the process. The space is compact, unheated and standing-room only, so it is worth dressing for the weather rather than a wine bar. It is informal by design: a working winery first, a tasting room second.

Visiting Blackbook Winery

Winery tours: Most Saturday afternoons, with occasional Thursday evenings, Blackbook runs a 75-minute guided tour and tasting of four wines for £25 per person. Tickets are limited by the size of the space, so book ahead via the website.

Summer wine bar: From roughly May to September, the winery opens as a wine bar - Fridays 4-9pm and Saturdays 5:30-9:30pm - for walk-in drinks rather than a formal tour.

Groups and private hire: Custom tours for larger groups, corporate bookings and virtual tastings can be arranged directly with the winery.

The Wine at Blackbook Winery

Blackbook focuses on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, made from grapes bought from named growers rather than grown on site - most come from Clayhill Vineyard on the Dengie Peninsula in Essex, with some Seyval Blanc sourced from Yew Tree Vineyard in Oxfordshire.

The range runs from the core Nightjar Pinot Noir and Painter of Light Chardonnay through to more experimental bottlings: Controversy, a still Pinot Meunier; Drums>Space, a red field blend; Crush and Brisk, a Blanc de Noirs sparkling wine; and Fragments of Time, made from the disease-resistant Sauvignac grape grown at South Bank Vineyard. A reserve tier - Nightjar Pinot Noir Reserve and Pygmalion Chardonnay - gets extra ageing before release.

What's nearby

The winery sits in a working industrial estate rather than a scenic setting, with Battersea Park station close by and the wider Battersea Power Station redevelopment nearby if you want to combine a visit with shops, restaurants or a walk along the Thames.

For the extra curious

Blackbook was founded in 2017 by Sergio and Lynsey Verrillo, part of a small wave of urban wineries making English wine without owning any vineyards themselves - the grapes are picked, driven to London and pressed within hours, rather than the fruit travelling to a winery based near the vines. London now has four of these: Blackbook, Renegade, Vagabond's Canada Water site and London Cru.
