Most Awarded Vineyards in England & Wales

English and Welsh vineyards enter thousands of wines into competitions every year. We've compiled results over the last 5 years across 6 major competitions to understand which vineyards lead the way when it comes to producing critically acclaimed wines.

These rankings celebrate producers with sustained success across 6 major wine competitions over the past 5 years. Scores are calculated using a simple weighted model that gives Golds and Trophies a higher score than Silvers or Bronzes, and more weight to recent wins than success 5 years ago. A vineyard's absence from the list doesn't mean the wine isn't exceptional - many elite producers skip competitions, and our scoring naturally favors larger estates with broader portfolios. Additionally, this list strictly features vineyards, excluding stand-alone wineries or negociants that don't grow any of their own grapes.

Most Awarded

FAQ

How is this ranking calculated?

Every award is worth points depending on its tier with a trophy worth the most points followed by gold, silver and bronze medalds, and finally commended wines. A handful of trophies and golds can outrank a much larger pile of bronzes.

We also weight for recency: an award loses roughly a fifth of its points for every year that's passed. A trophy from four years ago still counts but it's worth less than a trophy from this year. That means a vineyard with a strong run a few years ago that's gone quiet more recently will still rank well, just perhaps not as well as one that's been strong right up to the present or has started to make a real mark.

Which competitions count?

WineGB Awards, the IWSC, the Independent English Wine Awards (IEWA), the International Wine Challenge (IWC), the Decanter World Wine Awards, and the Sommelier Wine Awards (SWA).

Does this include every award a vineyard has won?

Only from the six competitions above, and only where we're confident which Vinebound-listed vineyard a result belongs to.

Is this the same as Vinebound's own reviews?

No - this is purely a count of competition results. For our own first-hand take on visiting each vineyard, see the Vinebound recommends list instead.

I represent a vineyard - what if our award data is missing or incorrect?

Our rankings are calculated using published results from the 6 featured competitions over the last 5 years. If your estate's wins were listed under a different trading name or you spot an omission, please contact us and we'll gladly review our data.
